Best Options for Garage Flooring

best option for garage flooring

Out of all the areas of your property, the garage probably gets the worst of the abuse. After all, you are driving your vehicle into and out of the garage, or you are storing items and sliding boxes around the garage in most cases. Whether it is scratches on the floor, marks from tires, oil stains, dirt, or anything else that gets on the floor, it can be difficult to keep things clean and in shape. Choosing the right flooring can help with this.

With all the options on the market for garage flooring, though, it might seem difficult to know what you should pick. First, you must think about the qualities you need to consider when choosing flooring. You want to have flooring that is durable and that can offer the type of protection you need. You also need to consider the style and aesthetics of the flooring, as well as the price. After all, you need to have a material that will fall within your budget.

No matter the type of flooring you choose, you also need to make sure the concrete below is in good condition. If there are any holes or cracks in the floor, it is essential that you have those repaired before you begin using new flooring. This could require filling them before adding a coating or the floor covering. You may be able to complete the concrete repairs on your own, or you might want to hire someone to take care of it for you.

Using Paint on the Garage Floor

One of the methods of getting a garage floor that looks great without breaking the bank is to paint it. You can use latex-based paint for the concrete floor, and you will not have to worry about overspending, even on large floors. This does have some drawbacks, though. It tends to be more vulnerable to staining from things such as gas and oil.

Because of that vulnerability, it would mean that you need to clean up any spills as soon as they happen. This is not always possible for some, so it might not always be the ideal solution. The latex paint will usually last between two and three years before it needs to be done again.

Epoxy paint is another option, and it is one of the most popular choices available today. It is easy to apply on your own, and it tends to be more resiliant than the latex paint. It can repel stains from water and oil, and there a range of options available so you can find one that suits your style.

Rubber, Vinyl Composition and Porcelain Tiles

Another option to consider is using tiles in any of the above materials. They tend to be easy to install, and they are durable for that matter. They are easy to maintain, as well.

Some of the popular choices include vinyl composition tiles, which you have probably seen in grocery stores. These measure 12 × 12 inches and are 1⁄8” thick. They are glossy, look good, and they do not stain easily.

The porcelain tiles are thicker than ceramic, and they are very durable. You can install these on your own, just as you would put ceramic in a kitchen or bathroom. Of course, you could have the pros install them for you, as well.

The rubber snap together tiles are flexicle and simple. They are easy to clean, and they can provide a nice layer of protection to the floor. In addition to these tiles, you could get a rubber mat that would work in much the same way.

One of these options should work well for you. If you still have questions, be sure to speak with a professional to find the solution that’s right for you.
